PADAWAN: An 18-year-old motorcyclist was killed after she lost control of her motorcycle and fell under a moving lorry along Jalan Matang this morning.
Padawan district police chief Supt Barry William said police received notification of the fatal accident involving the lorry and motorcycle at about 9.02am.
He said initial investigations found that the accident occurred at about 8.20am while both vehicles were travelling from the Taman Dahlia traffic lights towards the Emart Matang roundabout.
“Upon reaching the scene, the motorcyclist is suspected to have lost control of her machine, causing her to fall onto the road surface and slip underneath the moving lorry.
“The victim and her motorcycle were dragged several metres along the left lane,” he said.
The victim was identified as Vanessa Elly, 18, a supermarket cashier from Kampung Heritage, Jalan Matang.
She sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene at 9.40am by medical officers.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Police are appealing to witnesses to come forward to assist with the investigation.
