KUCHING: A 20-year-old Indonesian worker has died from injuries sustained after being splashed by hot slag in a workplace accident here earlier this month.
The Sarawak Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) said preliminary investigations found that the incident occurred at about 4pm on Sept 5 while three workers were removing slag remaining inside a ladle.
“All three workers were splashed by the hot slag during the work.
“The 20-year-old is believed to have suffered severe burns to his hands and body and was rushed to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for treatment.
“He later died from his injuries on Sept 17, while the other two workers sustained minor injuries,” it said in a statement.
Following the incident, Sarawak DOSH issued two prohibition notices and one improvement notice to the employer, requiring appropriate control measures to be taken.
The department said legal action will be taken against employers who fail to comply with provisions under the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 (Act 514).
It stressed that the measures are necessary to ensure a safe and healthy working environment.
