Magistrate Rais Imran Hamid imposed the maximum fine, with a default of four months in jail, after Abdullah Mustakim, 33, pleaded guilty to voluntarily causing hurt to the pupil in a classroom at a school here at about 2.30 pm on Oct 23, 2024.

Abdullah was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum prison term of one year, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Mazlinda Mohd Nor prosecuted, while Abdullah, who now works as a labourer earning RM1,000 a month and supports a wife and three young children,  was represented by lawyer Farazalila Fauzi from the National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK).

According to the facts of the case, the pupil’s mother was at a night market at about 5.15 pm on the day of the incident when her son told her that Abdullah had kicked him in the face during a KAFA class at the school.
