KUALA LUMPUR: Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) will broadcast matches featuring the Harimau Malaya squad in the FIFA ASEAN Cup Division 1 competition in Jakarta, Indonesia, starting with the Group A opener against Bangladesh tomorrow, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
He said this in response to inquiries from social media users regarding the live broadcast of Harimau Malaya’s matches in the ASEAN Cup.
Anwar also called on Malaysians to give their full support to the team led by interim head coach Tan Cheng Hoe during the tournament’s inaugural edition.
“Alhamdulillah, I would like to share some good news. RTM will broadcast Harimau Malaya matches live, starting with the match against Bangladesh tomorrow.
“Let us give our full support to the national team,” he said in a Facebook post today (Sept 24).
According to the match schedule released by FIFA, the match featuring Malaysia—currently ranked 136th in the world against Bangladesh (ranked 181st) at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta will kick off at 5:00 PM Malaysian time (4:00 PM local time).
In addition to Bangladesh, the national squad has been drawn alongside hosts Indonesia and Singapore in Group A.
Group B comprises Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, and Pakistan.
Malaysia will face Indonesia (ranked 118th) at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in their second match on September 28, before concluding their Group A campaign against Singapore (ranked 148th) at Si Jalak Harupat Stadium in Bandung on October 1.
Under the tournament format, the winners of Group A and Group B will meet in the final at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium on the night of October 5, while the runners-up from both groups will compete in the third-place play-off at the same venue earlier that day.
