MIRI: Police have arrested two local men suspected of breaking into a shop storeroom here and stealing stock worth an undisclosed amount.
The suspects were arrested separately at locations around Miri at about 10.30 am today following police intelligence and information received from the public.
The operation was carried out by officers from the Crime Prevention Branch (CPJ) of Miri Central Police Station and led by its chief, ASP Goldy Jangan.
Police said the break-in occurred on August 20, when the storeroom door was allegedly prised open and the padlock on the grille door cut with metal cutters.
Several items believed to be linked to the theft were also seized during the operation and taken as exhibits to assist with further investigations.
Both suspects are being held at the Miri Central Police Station lock-up.
The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code.
Miri district police thanked members of the public for their cooperation and for providing information on suspected criminal activities.
Police said continued cooperation between law enforcement and the community was crucial in maintaining a safe and secure environment.
