SEREMBA: Police have opened an investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code following the death of a 14-year-old student at a school hostel in Kuala Pilah yesterday.
Negeri Sembilan police chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said a 16-year-old male student had been detained to assist with the investigation.
“Police are examining all facts and evidence to determine the actual cause and motive of the incident,” he said in a statement here today.
The victim was taken to Tuanku Ampuan Najihah Hospital in Kuala Pilah before he was pronounced dead.
Alzafny said police viewed any incident of violence involving students seriously, particularly those resulting in loss of life.
He also urged the public not to speculate or circulate unverified information that could hamper the investigation or affect the privacy of the deceased student’s family.
“Our priority is to ensure that the investigation is conducted professionally, thoroughly and based on evidence to ensure justice for all parties,” he said, adding that the suspect had been remanded for six days from today.
Meanwhile, the victim’s uncle, Kamaruddin Ngatimon, 49, said the family was shocked and deeply saddened by the death of his nephew, Muhammad Idlan Fareeq Shahril, whom he described as quiet, calm and someone who never caused trouble.
Speaking to reporters at the Forensic Unit of Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital here, he said Muhammad Idlan, the eldest of three siblings, was a loving and caring brother.
“Whenever he returned home, he would call me to take him to buy school necessities. The last time I saw him about three months ago, he told me everything was ‘okay’ at school,” he said.
Kamaruddin hoped justice would be served and appropriate action taken against those responsible.
Education Minister Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek also visited the victim’s family at the hospital’s Forensic Unit and, in a statement, conveyed the Education Ministry’s condolences over the student’s death. – BERNAMA
