KUCHING: Hope Place Kuching is reaching out to a 30-year-old mother of two who is facing multiple health challenges.
Erra Shahirah Akil lives with her husband and two children, aged one and 13, at Taman Dahlia, Matang.
According to the non-governmental organisation (NGO), Erra was diagnosed with schizophrenia in 2019 and currently receives monthly injections to manage her condition.
She also experiences incontinence and diabetes, and revealed that she sometimes suffers from hallucinations and suicidal tendencies when depressed.
“I’m aware that this is not normal but I can’t control my mind and actions,” Erra said in a press statement today (Sep 28).
“When my mood comes, I’ll scream loudly if I hear my baby cry,” she added, describing the challenges she faces during mood swings.
Erra added that when she is in a good mood, she takes care of her one-year-old child, but her husband takes over when her mood changes.
Despite her health challenges, Hope Place said Erra has a pleasant, friendly personality and was open about discussing her condition.
Her husband, Faizuwan, 38, previously worked as a security guard but quit his job to care for Erra and their youngest child.
Faizuwan has been living with epilepsy since September last year and continues taking medication. Due to their health conditions, he is unable to secure full-time employment and now earns an income by selling homemade food.
Hope Place is currently supporting the family with basic food supplies and baby milk powder.
