Engage community through sports, says Lo

HING: Local councillors are urged to engage the community  through sports. “Sports events are the best because when it comes to sport, everybody is together including the youths,” said  Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang.

He was speaking to the press after  the closing ceremony of Sukan Rakyat at Unity Hall RPR Batu Kawa here yesterday.

Lo, who is also Padawan Municipal Council chairman, pointed out such activity was a good platform to bring the community and local councillors together.

“Councillors are the closest to the people at the grassroots level. With this activity, the community can get to know their councillors better and build a good rapport.

“We want to provide the best services to the community as the local councils are service-oriented authorities.”

Lo commended the programme  which was well received by the locals in the area.

“Today, we have hundreds of people coming and with that, we can get their feedback on what they want us to do next and how to serve them better,” added Lo.

The programme was graced by Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian who is also Batu Kawa assemblyman.

It is understood that more than 300 people participated in the sports programme. Also present were the local councillors.
