
KUCHING: Three houses in Kampung Tupong Hulu at Jalan Astana here were razed to the ground while four others were partially destroyed in a fire early yesterday.
State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) in a statement said of the seven houses, three were totally destroyed, two sustained 10 per cent damage, one (20 per cent) and the last one (3 per cent).
“Three of the houses were semi-permanent while the other four were impermanent. The distance between the affected houses is about five to ten feet each.
“In this incident, a two-year-old boy was given oxygen therapy and then taken to a hospital by his own family for medical attention,” said the statement.
The department said 21 personnel from Petra Jaya and Kuching fire stations were dispatched to the scene after being alerted on the incident at 2.39am.
“The firefighters arrived at the scene at 2.53am and the fire was brought under control at 3.16am.
“A total of 69 people were affected by the fire and the actual cause of the fire and the total losses have yet to be ascertained,” it said.
