KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) has revitalised its leadership, balancing experience with renewal to strengthen Sarawak’s development while ensuring continuity within Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).

Political analyst Dr Ammar Redza Ahmad Rizal noted that the inclusion of seasoned politicians like Datuk Ibrahim Baki alongside relatively newer figures such as Datuk Len Talif Salleh reflects a well-calibrated approach.

Meanwhile, retaining veterans like Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi and Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee ensures continuity and stability within the party.

“This mix of emerging leaders and experienced politicians is not just about upholding the policies that have defined PBB within GPS; it also reflects a forward gaze.

“With this team, PBB appears positioned to sharpen its focus on what truly matters for Sarawak – strategic stewardship of the state’s natural resources.

“It also continues to push for the people’s infrastructure, the very projects laying the groundwork for Sarawak’s economic ascent,” he told Sarawak Tribune.

Ammar asserted that the selection of leaders reinforces PBB’s commitment to safeguarding Sarawak’s interests while ensuring an independent development trajectory within the GPS state-centric governance model.

As such, he said that viewing this line-up as a radical shift would be a misinterpretation.

“Instead, it signifies continuity – the stability that has underpinned the tangible progress Sarawak has experienced under the current GPS government, led by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg,” he explained.

This stability, he said, is crucial as Sarawak aims to solidify its economic standing, particularly by capitalising on opportunities in renewable energy and securing greater control over its resources.

Additionally, Ammar said the refreshed leadership signals a dual intent.

“It seeks to safeguard the tried-and-tested approaches that have served Sarawak effectively for years, while also embracing a measured renewal and recognising the need to adapt to shifting political tides,” he added.

He stressed that this strategic combination of experience and fresh perspectives aligns with the broader objectives of GPS.

“Moreover, it strengthens PBB’s position ahead of the next state election,” said Ammar.
