LEGENDARY Malaysian band A.C.A.B’s concert at Zepp Kuala Lumpur held last Saturday was momentarily halted after its drummer, Zul, collapsed on stage, believed to be due to a heart attack.
Zul collapsed while the band was performing its third song, approximately 30 minutes into the A.C.A.B 30th Anniversary Concert.
Lead vocalist Megat Hafiz Mohammad, better known as Megat, confirmed that Zul was suspected of suffering a heart attack and was rushed to the hospital by an on-site ambulance. The concert resumed about 20 minutes later, with Irfan stepping in to take over the drums.
Saturday’s performance marked A.C.A.B’s final concert as the band plans to disband following the milestone event. Themed “Bring Back The Bootboys”, the event paid tribute to the style that defined the band’s peak years.
Since its formation in 1994, A.C.A.B has been synonymous with the skinhead movement and oi! music in Malaysia.
The concert featured both former and current A.C.A.B band members: Megat (vocals), Edy (guitar), Zul (drums), Sham (bass), Azrin (drums), Irfan (drums) and Mono (bass). Andy from Flop Poppy also made a special appearance as a bassist, and European band Haymaker also made an appearance.
Reflecting on the band’s legacy, Megat shared, “I’m proud of what A.C.A.B has achieved over the past 30 years. What better way to end it than with the people who shaped us into who we are today?”
Addressing the decision to disband, Megat added, “Some have asked why we’re calling it quits. The answer is simple — A.C.A.B has fulfilled its purpose in the local music scene by uniting listeners from diverse backgrounds.”
