KUCHING: The exclusion of Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah from the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice-presidential lineup has raised eyebrows, with many viewing it as a significant loss for both the party and Sarawak.
Political analyst Datuk Peter Minos described Abdul Karim as a high-performing leader whose initiatives have greatly benefited the state.
Despite his defeat at the recent PBB Convention, he said Abdul Karim’s contributions as a minister have been widely acknowledged, particularly in the fields of sports and tourism, where he has played a key role in driving Sarawak’s success.
“Abdul Karim was a very effective sports minister, especially after Sarawak emerged as the overall champion of the 21st Malaysia Games (SUKMA) last year.
“We felt very proud of SUKMA’s success,” he said in a statement.
Beyond sports, Minos said Abdul Karim has also made a name for himself as Sarawak’s tourism minister, elevating the state into a top-tier destination that attracted record-breaking tourist arrivals last year.

He commended the Tourism, Creative Industry, Performing Arts minister’s efforts in promoting Sarawak’s culture, heritage, and natural attractions have contributed to economic growth, generating business opportunities and jobs for the people.
“He has done wonders for Sarawak. He is a hardworking, energetic minister who delivers real results. Losing him in the PBB vice-presidential lineup is a real setback,” Minos added.
Minos, who is the Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) chairman, said that Abdul Karim, serving as Asajaya assemblyman, has also been instrumental in driving development projects in his constituency.
“So, I really wonder why he lost. Why did some people in PBB not acknowledge and appreciate Karim’s significant contributions to Sarawak?” he lamented.
However, he expressed hope that Karim would continue serving in a ministerial role and be appointed to a key position within PBB, ensuring that his leadership and expertise remain valuable assets to Sarawak’s future.
Yesterday, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg told reporters that there would not be a Cabinet reshuffle.
This would mean Abdul Karim would continue to serve in the Cabinet.
