SELANGOR: A silver medal gave Leeyendy Jisen Abdullah a fitting farewell as he made his final Para SUKMA appearance for Sarawak today (Sept. 6).

The Bau-born athlete secured Sarawak’s first medal in para-athletics after finishing runner-up in the men’s LF11 discus throw at the UiTM Shah Alam Stadium.

Leeyendy produced a throw of 20.94 metres to finish second among seven competitors in the event.

Johor’s Muhammad Fahmi claimed gold with a throw of 28.62m, while Negeri Sembilan’s Ahmad Fikri Omar took bronze with 20.38m.

The result was particularly meaningful for Leeyendy, as Selangor 2026 marked his final appearance at Para SUKMA due to age.

“I am very grateful and happy to finish second. Actually, I tried to become champion, but second place is already enough for my journey at Para SUKMA this time,” he told reporters after the event.

Although he fell short of his target of winning gold, Leeyendy was pleased to end his final Para SUKMA appearance with a medal.

His 20.94m effort also added another milestone to a career competing in the LF11 category, which is for athletes with complete visual impairment.

With his Para SUKMA journey now complete, Leeyendy is looking towards opportunities to compete at a higher level and continue representing Sarawak and Malaysia at future competitions.

“I will return home to my beloved Sarawak, Bumi Kenyalang. As the saying goes, ‘Agi Hidup Agi Ngelaban’. I will do my best for Sarawak and Malaysia,” he said.
