KUCHING: It is that time of the year when lions and dragons strut their stuff to the beat of drums and cymbals.

In just about every street corner there’s no mistaking that the Lunar New Year is approaching with the frontage of shops and houses, at the very least, bathed in red, the festive colour synonymous to the occasion.

It’s also a season when festive goodies abound, with special attention going to scrumptious meals as food brings everyone together in celebration.

Chinese New Year which falls on Jan 29 this year is also a time when the community reaches out in a big way to share their good tidings with fellow citizens.

A case in point was the Sports Toto CNY Ang Pow Donation Campaign 2025 which took place at the Che Khor Moral Uplifting Society here on Saturday (Jan 18).

Like in years past, it brought festive cheer to people as the celebration draws near.

Their shared their hopes, wishes and what they were looking forward to with the dawning of yet another festive season.

Campaign volunteer, Jegdishpery Velappanaikar, 33, hoped the coming year brings meaningful changes for all, particularly for the senior citizens involved in the Sports Toto programme.
