KUCHING: The Kuching Waterfront was transformed into a dazzling symphony of light, sound and artistry as ‘A Waterfront Spectacular’, presented by The Band Lab, drew thousands of mesmerised spectators to Zone A for an unforgettable night of music and celebration.
The event was graced by the presence of key state dignitaries, including Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (MTCP) Sarawak, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Deputy Minister Datuk Snowdan Lawan, and MTCP Permanent Secretary, Datuk Sherrina Hussaini.
According to Jesmond Siew, founder of The Band Lab, the event aimed to inspire people to discover their creativity, and the enthusiastic response from the crowd affirmed the power of artistic collaboration.
“Our vision for ‘A Waterfront Spectacular’ was to create more than just a show; it was an invitation for everyone to discover the music and artistry within themselves.
“Seeing the joy and inspiration on the faces of thousands tonight truly affirmed our belief in the power of creative collaboration,” he said.
Meanwhile, Abdul Karim praised the organisers for delivering a high-quality, entertaining concert that drew thousands to the Kuching Waterfront, despite the earlier rain.

“Thousands of Kuching residents flooded the Kuching Waterfront tonight to enliven the musical concert and fireworks display organised by The Band Lab, supported by our ministry.
“Congratulations to the organisers who delivered such a high-quality and entertaining musical performance, despite the earlier rain,” he said.
The free public concert held at the Kuching Waterfront on Saturday night (July 12), conducted by Siew and featuring a full 65-piece orchestra, opened with a stirring performance of Disney’s ‘100 Years of Wonder’ that set a whimsical and nostalgic tone, followed by stunning renditions of beloved Disney classics including ‘Beauty and the Beast’, ‘The Lion Sleeps Tonight’, ‘A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes’, the Frozen II Medley, and ‘The Circle of Life’.
The orchestra used traditional Sarawakian instruments in a culturally rich twist, blending East and West to produce a distinctive musical soundscape that honoured Sarawak’s musical ingenuity and legacy.
The powerful vocals of Dell Lawrence, Ng Chien, Christine Chai, Taylor Louise, Ashwaree, and Shann Liaw, supported by The Voice Lab, the newly launched vocal initiative by The Band Lab, along with the graceful performances by dancers from the Iris School of Ballet, elevated the atmosphere and culminated in a synchronised pyromusical fireworks display by PyroMaster Pyrotechnics and Events that fused music and light in spectacular harmony against the illuminated Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) building.
A highlight of the evening was the official debut of LABBIE, The Band Lab’s charming new semibreve mascot.
