MIRI: Eighteen men who failed to comply with court-ordered drug rehabilitation monitoring have been arrested in a targeted enforcement sweep by the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) here on October 28.

According to AADK, seven of the men were picked up in Subis and eleven in Miri during ‘Ops Kesan’, which began at 8 am and involved 14 personnel carrying out coordinated moves at multiple locations.

The men had been on supervised release but did not report as required under their bail terms.

All have been ordered to undergo two years of compulsory treatment at the Narcotics Addiction Rehabilitation Centre (PUSPEN) in Kuching, followed by two years of post-release monitoring under the Drug and Substance Abuse (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983.

The agency said the operation reflects ongoing efforts to tighten compliance among individuals in rehabilitation and to prevent relapse into drug use.

The arrests come weeks after AADK Miri detained 24 suspected drug users during state-level enforcement operations in Miri and Subis. All 24 tested positive for methamphetamine and were held under Section 3 of the same Act.

AADK is expected to continue similar enforcement drives in the region.
