SIBU: Eleven individuals, including three couples, were arrested for suspected drug abuse during an operation conducted by the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) here last night (March 2).

The arrests were made under Operasi Cegah in several separate locations around the town.

AADK said six of those detained were men while five were women, aged between 22 and 42.

Initial urine screening found all 11 individuals positive for methamphetamine.

The operation was carried out by a team of eight officers and personnel.

AADK said the enforcement was in line with amendments to Act 283 – the Drug Addicts (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983, which expands the scope of action to include not only addicts but also substance abusers for treatment and rehabilitation.

The agency emphasised that its approach focuses on treatment and rehabilitation to prevent further deterioration of those involved.
