BELAGA: The National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) here took decisive action in Sungai Asap this week, blending law enforcement, rehabilitation, and community outreach to tackle drug issues head-on.
From Nov 18 to 19, AADK in collaboration with the Kapit Immigration Enforcement Division, conducted ‘Ops Cegah Khas’ that resulted in the arrest of 28 individuals — 22 men, three women, and three Indonesians.
Authorities also dismantled two suspected drug dens, with local community leaders playing a key role in identifying the sites.
Beyond enforcement efforts, AADK’s Treatment and Rehabilitation Unit visited four longhouses to monitor clients’ recovery progress and bolster family support — a key ingredient in successful rehabilitation.
The initiative culminated in a lively community engagement programme at Dewan Rumah Panjang Kulit, drawing more than 200 residents.
Officiated by Belaga District Officer Bidah Lujah and attended by AADK Sarawak director Abdul Hamediee Ibrahim, the event featured interactive dialogue sessions and educational sharing, fostering closer ties between authorities and the community.
AADK Sarawak said these initiatives reflect its commitment to inclusive drug prevention and rehabilitation.
It also demonstrates how collaboration with government agencies and local communities can make a real difference in curbing drug-related issues.
