KUALA LUMPUR: National men’s doubles pair, Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik, have climbed to No. 4 in the latest world rankings – their highest position in six months – following their impressive title-winning run at the Badminton Asia Championships (BAC) last week.
Previously ranked sixth, Aaron and Wooi Yik gained a significant boost from their BAC victory, which awards ranking points on par with a Super 1000 World Tour event.
The win propelled them two spots up the ladder.
This marks their return to the No. 4 spot for the first time since early October last year.
A string of inconsistent performances had kept them fluctuating between No. 5 and No. 6 in recent months.
Meanwhile, Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Rumsani remain Malaysia’s highest-ranked men’s doubles pair, holding steady at World No. 2.
Despite falling short of defending their runners-up points from last year’s BAC – exiting at the quarter-final stage this time – they retained their position in the rankings.
Elsewhere, Man Wei Chong and Tee Kai Wun, who bowed out in the round of 16 in Ningbo, managed to hold onto their No. 7 spot, despite recent struggles with form.
In total, Malaysia currently boasts seven men’s doubles pairs within the top 32 of the world rankings – a strong testament to the country’s depth in the discipline.
