KUCHING: The office of Kanowit MP Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang is monitoring the haze situation in the district and is prepared to mobilise assistance for affected residents.
Aaron, who is also National Unity Minister, said his office would continue liaising with relevant agencies to ensure the welfare and needs of Kanowit residents were addressed throughout the haze period.
“I take note of the decision by the Sarawak Education Department to temporarily close all primary and secondary schools under the Kanowit District Education Office (PPD), effective immediately on Sept 21, 2026, following the haze situation and Air Pollutant Index (API) readings exceeding 200,” he said in a statement posted on Facebook today (Sept 21).
He said home-based teaching and learning (PdPR) would be implemented throughout the closure period.
“The health and safety of the children, teachers and the entire Kanowit community are a priority,” he said.
Aaron also urged the public, particularly children, senior citizens and those in high-risk groups, to reduce outdoor activities and regularly monitor API readings as well as follow advice issued by the authorities.
He said his office would remain in close contact with relevant agencies to monitor developments and coordinate any assistance needed by communities affected by the haze.
Aaron added that the public should continue to follow updates from the authorities and take necessary precautions throughout the period.
At the time of writing, Kanowit recorded the highest Air Pollutant Index (API) reading at 218, followed by Lubok Antu at 197.
