KUCHING: The Sarawak Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCI) hosted a heartfelt Appreciation Dinner on Wednesday at the Sarawak Club here to honour Datuk Seri Abang Abdul Karim Tun Openg, who officially retired after an exceptional 32 years of service to the chamber.
The evening was a special tribute to a leader whose vision and dedication have left an indelible mark on the Sarawak business landscape.
“Datuk Seri Abang Abdul Karim’s legacy will continue to inspire the chamber and the business community for years to come,” said SCCI in a statement.
The event brought together members, past and present committee members, and prominent business leaders to pay tribute to Abang Abdul Karim’s decades of unwavering leadership.
The gathering was emotional and memorable, marked by touching speeches, shared memories, and a deep sense of gratitude.
“Datuk Seri Abang Abdul Karim began his journey with SCCI in 1993 as a committee member, later serving as deputy president from 2004 to 2005, before leading as president from 2005 to 2025,” it said.
His 20-year presidency transformed the chamber into a formidable voice for Sarawak’s business sector, establishing strong partnerships with government agencies and industry players.
In recognition of his outstanding contributions, Abang Abdul Karim was conferred the title of Honorary Life President of the SCCI.
As the chamber embarks on a new chapter, it does so with profound appreciation for the foundation laid by Abang Abdul Karim, and with renewed commitment to championing the interests of Sarawak’s business community.
