Abang Jo boosts Sarawak-Japan cooperation at Tokyo meetings

TOKYO: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his delegation attended five high-level meetings in Tokyo on Monday (Dec 16) as part of his official working visit to enhance economic cooperation and drive investments in key sectors.

The discussions focused on opportunities in oil and gas, carbon capture, utilisation, and storage (CCUS), minerals, project financing, and industrial development.

Abang Johari’s first meeting was with ENEOS Corporation and JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration Corporation, followed by engagements with the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) and Sumitomo Corporation.

He also met with the Japan Organisation for Metals and Energy Security (JOGMEC) and the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI).

Today, he is scheduled to meet with Boeing Japan to discuss initiatives involving Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and related research and development collaborations.

Accompanying the Premier were Malaysia’s Ambassador to Japan Datuk Shahril Effendi Abd Ghany, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, Minister of Utilities and Telecommunications Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi, Deputy Minister of International Trade, Industry, and Investment Datuk Dr Malcolm Mussen Lamoh, and Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni.

Also present were State Attorney General Datuk Seri Saferi Ali, State Financial Secretary Datuk Seri Dr Wan Lizozman Wan Omar, Deputy State Secretary (Economic Planning and Development) Datuk Seri Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel and Satok assemblyman Datuk Ibrahim Baki.
