BAU: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has been invited by the World Economic Forum (WEF) to speak at its upcoming Asia meeting in Tianjin, China, next month.
He said the invitation is recognition of Sarawak’s rising position as an emerging industrial cluster in Southeast Asia, particularly in the renewable energy sector.
“This is an international platform. They invited us because Sarawak is now listed as an emerging industrial cluster in the region.
“God-willing, I will speak in Tianjin next month. At the very least, I’ll be carrying the Sarawak flag on the world stage,” he said.
He said this when officiating at Bau’s 205th Anniversary Celebration in conjunction with Pesta Tasik Biru and Tasik Biru Resort City here today.
Abang Johari expressed confidence that Sarawak is on track to become a leading player in the ASEAN renewable energy market.
He said this was due to the state’s clear strategic direction and consistent implementation of green energy policies under its new economic framework.
“I believe Sarawak’s new economy will stand out. We’ll be a major player in ASEAN for renewable energy.
“We will become the ‘star’,” he added.
The Premier asserted that the state’s achievements stem from its own initiatives and not by relying solely on federal government support.
“Initiatives must come from Sarawak. If we don’t take the lead, we will never move forward,” he said.
He also called for continued unity among Sarawakians, stressing that political stability and racial harmony remain key to the state’s development.
