KUCHING: The earth-breaking ceremony for the new medical and commercial building of the Che Hia Khor Moral Uplifting Society (CHKMUS) Kidney Foundation marks the beginning of a major expansion.
This expansion aims to improve healthcare services and benefit more than 320 patients.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg praised Datuk Sri Tay Chin Kin, the founder and chairman of the Che Hia Khor Moral Uplifting Society Kidney Foundation, and his colleagues for their 27 years of dedicated efforts in assisting those suffering from kidney problems.
“The state government, through the relevant ministries, also helps patients with kidney dialysis three times a week due to the high costs borne by the B40 and M40 groups.
“Dialysis requires high costs, and our budget is increasing to help them. Therefore, the government has a model in addition to the insurance scheme from the government.
“Because the number of kidney patients is increasing, we are looking for other models, and it is still under study,” he said this in his speech when officiating the event at Lot 2608, Lorong 8, Laksamana Cheng Ho here on Monday (Dec 30).
In this regard, he advised the public to take care of their health by checking their blood sugar every morning or at least once a week.
“Looking at the positive side, indeed we are able to help the people (in terms of health), but the negative side clearly shows that our people are not healthy.
“So, we need to find good solutions to help improve public health, and so far, the government continues to do its best for the people.
“That is why when CHKMUS requested assistance from us to develop a new medical centre, we agreed because it is one of the initiatives to help the people,” he said.
