DARO: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg will officially open the Muara Lassa Bridge on Saturday (Feb 22).

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who is also the Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development, personally inspected the preparations for the inauguration on Friday (Feb 21).

The update was shared by Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development, Datuk Aidel Lariwoo, via his Facebook page.

Also present during the inspection were Minister for Utility and Telecommunication, Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi; and Daro assemblyman Safiee Ahmad.

Meanwhile, Safiee when contacted by the Sarawak Tribune, said he called on all residents of Daro, Matu, Pulau Bruit, and the surrounding areas to attend the ceremony.

“This is a truly historic day, as a high-impact project has been completed and is now in use for this area.

“Therefore, I urge the community to come in large numbers as a sign of gratitude and to celebrate this historic occasion together.”

Earlier, the bridge was soft-launched by Aidel on Jan 9.

Spanning 2.43km and built at a cost of RM600 million, the Muara Lassa Bridge is Sarawak’s second-longest bridge after the Batang Lupar Bridge.

With its completion, Daro residents now only need to take one ferry at Batang Paloh, significantly reducing travel time between Sibu and Daro.  Previously, they had to take two ferries—one at Batang Paloh and another at Muara Lassa—to reach Daro from Sibu.
