KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has arrived in Bangkok, Thailand, for the Water and Development Congress & Exhibition 2025 (WDCE 2025).
He arrived at Don Mueng International Airport at 12.29 pm together with State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki and Utility and Telecommunication (MUTS) Minister Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi as well as other dignitaries.
He was greeted by Malaysia to the Kingdom of Thailand Ambassador Minister Ahmad Hashim Mahmood upon his arrival at the airport.
Meanwhile, his arrival at the Intercontinental Bangkok hotel was welcomed by Malaysia to the Kingdom of Thailand Ambassador Datuk Wan Zaidi Wan Abdullah, and Deputy State Secretary (Operation) Datuk Hii Chang Kee.
Soon after his arrival, he attended a luncheon organised by MUTS.
For the record, WDCE 2025 is a global event focused on water and development issues in low and middle-income countries.
Attracting nearly 2,700 participants from 85 countries, the Congress featured an engaging programme of 39 technical sessions, 40 workshops, and five forums, including the High-Level Summit on Sanitation and the Climate Smart Utilities recognition programme.
The 2025 edition is co-hosted by Asian Institute of Technology and has the overall theme of Water, sanitation, and innovation – pathways to progress and a resilient future.
Attending the event for two days, Abang Johari is scheduled to deliver a plenary keynote address titled ‘Water: Driving Sarawak’s Resilient and Sustainable Future’ at 9am tomorrow.
The event is being held at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre from Dec 8 to 12.
