KUALA LUMPUR: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg described receiving the Sustainability Visionary Award not as a personal achievement, but as a reflection of collective leadership and institutional strength.
“I receive the Sustainability Visionary Award with deep humility. Not as a personal achievement, but as a reflection of what is possible when leadership is supported by strong institutions, committed public servants and partners who believe that sustainability must be translated into action,” he said.
He made these remarks in his special keynote address during the UN Global Compact Network Malaysia & Brunei (UNGCMYB) Members Celebration Night 2026 at the InterContinental Hotel here on Thursday (Jan 29) evening.
Abang Johari stressed that the progresses made in Sarawak has never been the work of one individual alone.
He said it has been the result of collective effort, of ministries, agencies, and teams who have worked quietly and consistently to ensure that economic growth is pursued alongside environmental stewardship and social responsibility.
“I want to be very clear – none of this would be possible without the institutions that do the hard work of enabling implementation,” he said.
