KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg took time to attend and participate in the GPS Backbenchers Shooting Competition 2026 held at the IPK Batu Kawa Shooting Range here yesterday (May 16).
His presence added significance to the competition, which was organised as a platform to strengthen ties and foster closer cooperation among elected representatives and political leaders in the state.
In a Facebook posting by Sarawakku, several state assemblymen and political secretaries representing various constituencies throughout Sarawak also took part in the competition.
The event was held in a relaxed yet competitive atmosphere, with participants demonstrating their skills and accuracy in the shooting events contested.
Apart from serving as a recreational activity, the competition was also seen as a platform to cultivate discipline, focus and sportsmanship among participants.
Throughout the programme, Abang Johari also spent time mingling with participants and invited guests while observing several competition sessions.
The organisation of such programmes is hoped to further strengthen camaraderie and cooperation among government leaders and elected representatives to ensure continued unity in Sarawak.
