KUCHING: Several leaders in the state and non-governmental organisation (NGO) paid tribute to New Sarawak Tribune deputy executive editor Jimmy Adit who passed away, apparently due to heart attack last Monday.
Among them was Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg who have conveyed his condolences to the family.
Abang Johari’s message was shared by his political secretary in a Facebook post on Tuesday (June 9).
Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri too was at a loss for words after hearing the sad news.
“I’m personally at a loss for words over the loss of a good man. I wish to express my deepest condolences to his family and the media fraternity. May his soul rest in peace,” said Nancy in her Facebook post.
Also saddened by the passing of the late Jimmy was Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi.
“As one of Sarawak’s very own respectable senior journalist, Jimmy had carved his name not only as a prolific writer and journalist, but he is also our strong supporter who had contributed a lot in terms of sharing news related to Sarawak’s development.
“He will be missed,” said Nanta in his Facebook post.
Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep too was shocked by the news, saying the late Jimmy left too soon and he will be sadly missed by many.
Meanwhile, president of Sarawak Cheshire Home Datuk Seri Ang Lai Soon said the passing of the late Jimmy had robbed the fourth estate of one of its finest members.
“He had a good command of the English language, and had interviewed me on a number of occasions. No nonsense; Dato (Jimmy) never wasted people’s time. One interview and the following day his masterpiece,” he said in his Facebook post.
Ang said the late Jimmy was also a staunch supporter of his charities and environmental work.
“My deepest sympathy and condolence to his family and to the New Sarawak Tribune. May he rest in peace and rise in glory,” said Ang.
