KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has been reappointed as Pro-Chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) for the term from March 15, 2026 to March 14, 2029.
The reappointment was consented to by Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar in his capacity as Chancellor of UNIMAS, on the advice of the Minister of Higher Education.
Earlier, Abang Johari received a courtesy call from UNIMAS top management led by Board of Directors chairman Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Sulong Matjeraie, together with Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Ahmad Hata Rasit at Satria Pertiwi Complex here today (Mar 17).
The visit, among others, was to present the letter of his reappointment as Pro-Chancellor of the university.
This marks the fourth time Abang Johari has held the position since his first appointment on Mar 15, 2017, reflecting continued confidence in his leadership in supporting the development of higher education in Sarawak.
During the meeting, Ahmad Hata also presented the latest developments at UNIMAS, including achievements in academics and research, as well as efforts to strengthen the institution’s growth.
At the same time, the university management introduced the newly established Faculty of Law, making it the 11th faculty at UNIMAS.
Also introduced was the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Johan Shamsudin Sabaruddin.
