KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg shared a personal anecdote about his late wife, Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang, highlighting her quiet yet deeply impactful nature.
Abang Johari recalled a personal memory that reflected her thoughtfulness and humility.
“We were often invited to events with meals. On one occasion, after we had finished eating, I stood up and left — and when I left, everyone else followed.
“In the car, Juma’ani gently reminded me to always look to the left and right before leaving — because while we were done eating, others had only just started.
“It may have seemed like a small gesture, but that was her nature — quiet, yet deeply impactful. This is what equity meant,” he said in his speech during the Sarawak Women’s Day celebration at the Dewan Undangan Negeri (DUN) Complex here on Saturday.
He said he has since shared her advice with fellow Cabinet members as a reminder to remain considerate and grounded in public life.
Abang Johari also expressed his gratitude to the many women who have supported him throughout his various roles in leadership.
“I want to thank everyone for the memories I shared with my wife. Yesterday marked 40 days since her passing.
“I asked my children to help me through occasions like this. May Allah bless her soul and place her among the righteous and faithful,” he said.
Juma’ani, 76, passed away on June 23 at 3.34 am in a private medical centre. She was the daughter of Sarawak’s second Yang di-Pertua Negeri, Tun Tuanku Bujang Tuanku Othman.
She is fondly remembered as a humble and devoted woman who contributed significantly to charitable and community work across Sarawak
