SIMANGGANG: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is scheduled to officiate the eight-storey Sarawak Islamic Complex in Sri Aman on December 20.
Sarawak Baitulmal Fund (TBS) general manager Datuk Abang Mohd Shibli Abang Mohd Nailie said the complex, which will serve as a new landmark and icon of Simanggang town, was developed on a 6.37-acre site and began construction in February 2021.
“The complex will house several key state government departments and agencies, including the Sri Aman Division Resident’s Office, Sri Aman District Office, Sarawak Islamic Religious Department (JAIS), Sarawak Regional Forestry Department, Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID), Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS), and the Sarawak Service Counter.
“It will not only enhance administrative efficiency and government services, but is also expected to become a new landmark for Sri Aman town, featuring modern Islamic architecture and colorful lighting systems that add visual appeal, especially at night,” he said.
He said this after chairing a Coordination Meeting and Site Visit for the Official Opening Ceremony of the Sarawak Islamic Complex in Sri Aman with representatives from various government agencies and stakeholders yesterday (Nov 4).
He added that the strategically located eight-storey complex, designed with modern Islamic architecture along the Batang Lupar River, is expected to attract more visitors to Simanggang town.
“The Sarawak Islamic Complex in Sri Aman is more than just a physical building; it is a symbol of unity and progress for the Muslim community in Sri Aman. It will serve as a centre for knowledge, da’wah, and welfare that benefits the entire community,” he added.
He said that the construction of the complex demonstrates the ongoing commitment of the Sarawak State Government, through the Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) and the Sarawak Baitulmal Fund (TBS), to strengthen Islamic infrastructure and expand services to the people.
He also urged Community leaders and village chiefs (KMKK) as well as residents in the Sri Aman Division to attend the opening ceremony in large numbers to show their support for development initiatives that have a positive impact on the people.
