KUCHING: Kuching City FC head coach Aidil Sharin Sahak described Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s presence at the Sarawak State Stadium on Saturday night (Jan 31) as a positive sign for football in Sarawak.
The remark came following the team’s 2-0 Malaysia Super League win over Negeri Sembilan.
Aidil expressed his gratitude for the Premier’s support, noting that it was the first time in over a decade that the state leader attended a Kuching City match.
“It’s a great honour to have the Premier here to support us. His presence shows strong backing for football in Sarawak, and I hope it signals more investment and development for the sport locally,” Aidil said.

The coach added that the win, coupled with the Premier’s attendance, was a boost for the team’s morale.
“Since the Premier came and supported the club, I think this is a good sign, not only for Kuching but for the whole of Sarawak,” he said.
Aidil also reiterated the team’s focus on continuing their good form as they aim to climb the Malaysia Super League standings.
Prior to the match, club chief executive officer (CEO) Iswandi Ali Hassan welcomed Abang Johari, who was joined in the grandstand by club president Datuk Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman to watch the game.
