KUCHING: The Amateur Bowling (Tenpin) Association Sarawak (ABAS) needs new leaders to provide the necessary coaching and guidance to develop bowling talents among young Sarawakians.
Its president Sunny Si Poh Heng said as much as ABAS needs new young students to join the first ever Senator School Bowling programme, the association also needs new leaders to take over from those who have retired.
“Our new leaders should be able to inspire us and carry on the tradition of our former leaders.
“The association’s founding mentor is the late former Chief Minister Pehin Sri Adenan Satem.
“He was the one who encouraged us years ago (to inspire the young ones to take up bowling),” he said during a press conference after the inaugural launching of Senator School Bowling programme by Senator Datuk Ahmad Ibrahim at Megalanes Sarawak, Batu Kawa here yesterday.
Si added that when bowling reaches the Olympics stage, he hoped that a bowler from the Land of the Hornbill will be there.
Therefore, he said future bowlers have to start at a young age but the association also needs new leaders to inspire them.
