ACTRESS Abby Abadi has spoken out strongly about the growing trend of drama productions including overly intimate scenes, which she says make viewers uncomfortable and cross syariah boundaries.
The 47-year-old stressed that certain portrayals should be avoided to protect public sensitivities as well as the actors’ own reputations.
“The acting industry must also be mindful. Scenes that are indecent, show physical contact or involve wearing revealing towels should be avoided.
“If someone is married, they should not be touching their co-star, kissing their head, forehead or anything else. Don’t do it — it’s a serious sin,” she said in an Instagram Story.
The ‘Pasrah’ actress added that what may seem like a minor scene can often lead to bigger consequences in an actor’s personal life, especially when viewers begin to make assumptions.
“All these things can cause major problems in our lives once everyone starts talking. We must be careful,” she said.
Abby’s remarks sparked a wide range of reactions from netizens, many of whom agreed that the industry should not rely so heavily on physical contact to convey emotion.
“One thing’s true — don’t just focus on Dolla. The acting world also needs attention. A drama can still be great without constant touching; there are many other techniques,” wrote one follower.
“Actors have families and partners. Not everyone is comfortable with such scenes, yet some still go through with them. Don’t they think about the sin?” commented another netizen.
“Agreed. Many people criticise Dolla, but the acting industry must also guard its boundaries. Emotions can be expressed without excessive physical contact,” said a social media user.
The issue surfaced after a heated debate on social media, where netizens questioned why certain parties were only criticising specific artistes for not dressing according to syariah, while the wider industry faces similar concerns that deserve equal scrutiny.
