KUCHING: The revised Budget 2023 announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar is balanced and beneficial for development.
Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the allocation of RM5.6 billion to Sarawak and RM6.5 billion to Sabah is “tremendously good and beneficial”.
“Personally, the budget is not burdensome as it covers the economy industrially, considering we just recovered from the global pandemic of Covid-19,” he said.
Abdul Karim said he has no complaints regarding the Budget 2023, and with the additional allocation of RM300 million under Article 112 as announced previously by the prime minister, Budget 2023 benefits all people of Sarawak.
Following that, he hoped the budget could assist Sarawak and Sabah from the perspective of infrastructure
“I see that the budget is good and it does not hurt the people’s pockets,” he added.
He was speaking to the reporters during a press conference held after RTM appreciation night held at Waterfront Hotel on Friday (Feb 24).
Meanwhile, Abdul Karim pointed out from the aspect of tourism, Mulu National Park has been left out from the allocation to preserve Unesco World Heritage Sites in the budget.
“Mulu National Park in Sarawak is not included in the budget, I know the cost of maintaining the place is quite large.
“So I felt that something was missing, the budget only announced the allocation for Penang and Melaka but it doesn’t seem balanced when it left out Mulu, in Sarawak,” he said.
