Abdul Karim leads another term as PEMADAM vice president

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysian Drug Prevention Association (PEMADAM) Sarawak chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah has retained his post as National PEMADAM vice president for the 2025–2029 term after winning 468 votes.

The state Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Minister, who previously held the same position, secured the victory in an election held at Dewan Sri Siantan here yesterday.

At the 46th PEMADAM National Biennial General Assembly, National PEMADAM president Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah said the association remained committed to strengthening drug prevention through education, advocacy and strategic cooperation.

PEMADAM Sarawak deputy chairperson Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali also urged members to unite and intensify grassroots prevention efforts towards a drug-free Malaysia.

“The new leadership and members must remain united, pool their resources and implement more effective grassroots prevention programmes to achieve a drug-free Malaysia,” Salrihe said.

Earlier, a total of 1,116 delegates attended the meeting, including 146 from Sarawak.

The election also saw Datuk Seri Dr Shahidan Kasim elected deputy president.

Prof Dr Mohd Shafry Mohd Rahim was voted deputy president II, while Datuk Omar Osman secured the deputy president III position for the new term.

Delegates also approved the national financial report and reviewed two years of preventive education programmes, awareness campaigns and collaborations with local and international agencies.
