KUCHING: Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah has expressed openness to the suggestion by Julau MP Datuk Larry Sng regarding the merger of Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) and Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS).
However, the Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister stressed that the final decision rests with the leaders of these component parties.
“One thing in politics, there are no real enemies and there are no real friends.
“There can always be changes along the way, and we never know, one day it might end up being like that, and it’s for the leaders to determine,” he said.
He made these remarks when met by reporters during the Aidilfitri open house organised by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and wife Puan Sri Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here today (Apr 10).
However, he reiterated that the suggestion was merely a personal opinion, and it is up to the party components’ respective leaders to decide.
“He (Sng) can give his view but whether it’s going to become a reality or not, that is yet to be seen,” he added.
The recent dissolution of PSB was formally announced during an event welcoming former PSB members into PDP at a Sibu hotel on April 6.
Former PSB president Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh revealed that PSB was advised by the Registrar of Societies (ROS) to convene a Special Delegates Conference on Feb 1.
Following a meeting on March 11 and approval of the dissolution letter on March 19, PDP accepted PSB members en bloc into its fold.
With PSB’s dissolution, PDP president Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing appointed Wong as PDP senior vice-president, and former PSB deputy president Dr Johnical Rayong Ngipa and secretary-general Baru Bian as PDP vice-presidents.
