KUCHING: The Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) must continuously innovate, enhance, and strive for excellence to keep pace with the ever-evolving world of sports, says Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

The Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development said there is a need for SSC to embrace change and adapt to future challenges.

“I would like to share my expectations for all of us at SSC. As the world of sports continues to evolve, and so must we. We must continue to innovate, enhance and strive for excellence in every area.

“Our athletes are relying on us for their success, and therefore we must rise to meet the responsibility by continuing to provide the best facilities, support and training where possible,” he said in his address at the SSC Appreciation Night here last night (Feb 22).

He also encouraged SSC to face the future with courage and adaptability.

“It is important that we embrace the challenges of the future, just as any great movie character would. We must therefore face adversity with courage, adapt to change with salience, and always push towards victory.

“Together, we can create an environment, where every athlete can thrive and every initiative can flourish,” he said.

Following the successes of Malaysia Games (SUKMA) 2024, Abdul Karim attributed the victory to hard work and teamwork.

“We have proven that we can achieve greatness in the various fields of sports. And now we must strive for even greater heights. Let us not become complacent but instead challenge ourselves to refine our systems, expand our reach, and nurture new talents.

“The facilities, the preparation, the teamwork — all of these must continue to evolve,” he added.

In a show of appreciation, Abdul Karim also presented a souvenir to former SSC chief executive officer (CEO) Awang Putrayusrie Awang Redzuan during the event.
