KUCHING: State youth and sports associations are urged to effectively use government grants to enhance their activities and programs, said Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
He stressed the importance of using the RM30,000 grants wisely, rather than saving them or spending on unnecessary items.
“Sarawak houses potential athletes who needs to be developed. 42 associations and organisations will receive grants for 2025, so make sure to use them wisely,” he told reporters at the 2025 Sarawak Youth and Sports Grant Handover Ceremony at the Baitulmakmur Building II here, today (Feb 10).
The of Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development expressed disappointment upon learning that some associations were seeking additional funds despite already receiving grants. “I feel ashamed when I hear such complaints,”
Abdul Karim remarked, urging associations to focus on developing sports and preparing for the upcoming Malaysia Games (SUKMA).
He then highlighted Sarawak’s achievement on becoming the overall SUKMA champion after 30 years and emphasised the need to maintain this success.
“We must be ready and give a tough challenge in the 2026 SUKMA in Selangor,” he added.
Also present at the event were Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development permanent secretary Morshidi Frederick and MYSED deputy permanent secretary Dolhadi Marzuki.
