KUCHING: The passing of former Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi is a great loss to the nation, said Governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
The Head Of State and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi extended their heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Abdullah Badawi, who served as Malaysia’s fifth prime minister from 2003 to 2009.
Wan Junaidi said the late leader will be remembered as a distinguished statesman who served the country with unwavering dedication, humility, and a leadership style grounded in noble values.
“Throughout his tenure, he introduced various policies and approaches that brought significant change to the nation,” he said in a condolence message yesterday (Apr 14).
He said among the late Abdullah’s most notable contributions was the introduction of Islam Hadhari, a concept that emphasised a holistic development of Muslim society by balancing spiritual and physical progress.
This approach, he noted, strengthened Malaysia’s image as a progressive and moderate Islamic nation on the global stage.
He added that under Abdullah Badawi’s leadership, the principles of good governance, human capital development, and interethnic and interfaith tolerance were further upheld.
“His humility, people-centric spirit, and dignified demeanour remain an exemplary model for current and future leaders,” he added.
The Head of State and his wife also prayed for Abdullah Badawi’s soul to be showered with blessings and placed among the righteous.
