KUCHING: Researchers and industry players are being urged to turn green technology research into practical and scalable solutions.
Energy and Environmental Sustainability Deputy Minister, Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni, said the Sarawak Government, through the Ministry of Energy and Environmental Sustainability (MEESty), welcomed strategic collaboration with Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) to translate classroom and laboratory innovations into solutions on the ground.
He said academic expertise is needed to help engineer the future as Sarawak pursued its goal of becoming a regional green powerhouse and achieving Net Zero Carbon Emissions by 2050.
“This is precisely why platforms like The 7th International Conference on Global Sustainability and Chemical Engineering (ICGSCE 2026) and 1st International Petroleum & Energy Summit (IPET 2026)
are so vital,” he said in his speech when officiating the event at a hotel here today.
He said the core pillars of the conferences, focusing on advanced biofuels, hydrogen technology, green chemical engineering and smart energy systems, were the exact technological building blocks MEESty required.
“Whether it is transforming our transport sector through hydrogen-powered Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART), scaling up our massive floating solar infrastructures, or developing Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), we need the technical breakthroughs discussed in this room,” he said.
He also urged researchers, engineers and industry leaders to align their expertise with Sarawak’s strategic pillars.
“Let us transform these conference papers into real-world innovations that power a sustainable global economy,” he said.
For the record, ICGSCE 2026 and IPET 2026 are being held from August 26 to 28 at The Waterfront Hotel, Kuching, with the theme ‘Advancing Sustainable Solutions Across Petroleum, Energy, and Chemical Engineering’.
