KUCHING: Popular Malaysian actor Syafiq Kyle drew an enthusiastic crowd of about 1,000 fans at the Kopiko Macchiato Roadshow held at Farley Kuching on Sunday (Apr 5), as excitement filled the venue upon his arrival.
Syafiq, 34, whose full name is Mohd Syafiq Shamim Abdul Razak, made a brief stop at the Kopiko booth before taking to the stage, as the atmosphere quickly turning lively and festive with fans cheered and gathered around.
The actor, who has been in the industry for 14 years and currently serves as Kopiko ambassador, headlined the event which featured four main interactive segments.
The programme began with a question-and-answer session where he engaged directly with fans, sharing insights into his career and experiences in the entertainment industry.
This was followed by a hands-on coffee-making segment, where he demonstrated how to prepare Kopiko Macchiato, drawing enthusiastic responses from the crowd.
Excitement peaked during the third segment when 10 lucky participants who answered questions correctly received exclusive limited-edition mugs personally signed by the actor.
The session continued with a special meet-and-greet, where five selected fans had the opportunity to take selfies with Syafiq and receive complimentary goodies.
Adding a local touch to the roadshow, Syafiq also joined the crowd in performing the popular Sarawakian “poco-poco” dance, further energising the atmosphere and strengthening his connection with fans.
In his remarks, Syafiq expressed appreciation for the strong support from Sarawak audiences, noting that this marked his second or third visit to the state.
“Every time I come to Sarawak, it is always for an event.
“I have never actually come here for a holiday, but I can see that the support from the people of Sarawak is very genuine.
“They gather in large numbers and show strong support whenever we are hosting an event,” he said during meet-and-greet session with the media.
He added that he was particularly touched by the overwhelming turnout, describing the crowd in Sabah and Sarawak as uniquely vibrant compared to those in Peninsular Malaysia.
“I am truly moved because it is quite difficult to get such a large and lively crowd like this in Peninsular Malaysia,” he added.
Sharing further about his role as Kopiko ambassador, particularly for Kopiko Macchiato, Syafiq said the brand holds strong sentimental value, having been part of his life since childhood.
“Kopiko as a brand has been around for more than 30 years, even before I was born, so it has always been part of our lives.
“When I think back to my childhood, Kopiko candies were something we often had growing up.
“That sense of nostalgia is what made me accept the opportunity to become a Kopiko ambassador,” he said.
He added that, as an actor who often faces demanding schedules that stretch late into the night or early morning, coffee has become an essential part of his routine to maintain energy and focus.
“I always make sure I have Kopiko with me, whether day or night.
“Sometimes filming continues until early morning, so coffee helps me stay fresh even when I feel sleepy,” he shared during an interaction session with fans.
Syafiq is also an award-winning actor, having received the Rising Icon Award (Male Category) recently at the 62nd Asia-Pacific Film Festival for his role in the film Blood Brothers: Bara Naga.
Among his notable television works is the popular drama series 1 Cent Thief.
During his appearance, Syafiq also took the opportunity to promote his latest film, Malaikat Malam, which is currently showing in cinemas nationwide.
