KUCHING: A new chapter in creative excellence begins today at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Cawangan Sarawak with the official launch of ‘AD Expo: Art and Design Expo 2026’.

It is a landmark umbrella platform set to transform how creative programmes are organised, presented, and connected to society and industry.

UITM campus Sarawak branch’s rector Professor Dr Firdaus Abdullah said the launch marks more than the conclusion of an exhibition; it signals a strategic shift toward a more impactful, structured and collaborative approach in positioning creativity within the university and beyond.

“AD Expo is introduced as a main umbrella platform that gathers multiple exhibitions, workshops, art markets, showcases and creative programmes in one place, at one time.

“Designed as a curated ecosystem, the platform unites communities, educational organisations, and industries under a shared identity, amplifying visibility, strengthening audience engagement, and creating meaningful cross-sector connections.

“Rather than replacing existing initiatives, AD Expo enhances them by providing a larger and more professional stage, stronger and more consistent audience flow, a unified branding identity, and greater opportunities for industry engagement.

“This milestone marks not just an event but a movement toward a more structured, professional and impactful creative future,” said Firdaus.

He was speaking at the official closing of ‘AD Expo: The 20th ReQaseni Exhibition & The Unforgettable Tales’ exhibition, UiTM Sarawak Branch, at tHe Spring today.

Firdaus added, through this integrated model, UiTM Sarawak strengthens the bridge between university and industry, ensuring creative output is not only seen, but valued and sustained.

“The launch reflects UiTM’s renewed direction towards purposeful collaboration, professionalism, and visible societal outcomes.

“AD Expo embodies the university’s commitment to ensuring that creativity is not confined to studios and classrooms, but actively engages real communities, real industries, and real challenges.

“It positions UiTM Sarawak as a hub that gathers and recognises emerging prospects and talents among youth, professionals and creative communities, creating pathways for growth and long-term partnerships,” he said.

The event also showcases talent with purpose, which the umbrella initiative exemplified through two major exhibitions launched under AD Expo 2026;

The Gelora Exhibition represents creative strength, growth and bold expression, showcasing the evolving potential of emerging artists and designers,

The Unforgettable Tales Exhibition demonstrates how art functions as education and awareness, connecting creativity with environmental narratives and community engagement.

Together, these exhibitions highlight knowledge transfer, public awareness, and talent recognition, proving that art and design are powerful tools for both expression and impact.

Firdaus also said the direction is clear.

“UiTM Sarawak champions creativity that are excellent and professionally delivered, meaningful and socially relevant, locally rooted in Sarawak’s identity, and confident and ready for wider national and international platforms.

“Today’s launch represents a commitment to making creative programmes more connected, more visible, and more strategically aligned with industry and societal needs,” he said.

Meanwhile, the students are reminded that professionalism extends beyond talent.

“True professional growth lies in communication, organisation, teamwork and the courage to present work to the public. These values were clearly demonstrated throughout the programme.

“Industry partners and community stakeholders are warmly invited to recognise AD Expo as an open, long-term collaborative platform, one that welcomes sustained partnerships in strengthening Sarawak’s creative ecosystem,” said Firdaus.
