MIRI: Deputy Defence Minister, Adly Zahari, visited border security posts in Pa’Dalih, Ba’Kelalan and Bario to observe ongoing operations and connect with army personnel stationed along the Sarawak-Kalimantan border recently.

During the visit, Adly was briefed on operational matters under ‘Operasi JAGAKAWAN’, including installation upgrades and ongoing maintenance works.

The visit provided him with first-hand insight into the day-to-day challenges faced by Malaysian Army (TDM) personnel tasked with securing the border.

“This visit is part of the implementation of the First Pillar of the National Defence Strategy, namely Integrated Deterrence, as outlined in the Defence White Paper 2020-2030.

“This strategy aims to safeguard national interests, particularly by defending sovereignty and territorial integrity while preventing any form of intrusion or conflict.

“National defence is implemented across integrated layers covering land, maritime, air and cyber-electromagnetic domains,” the ministry said in a statement today.

Aside from the operational focus, Adly also joined a community engagement programme in Bario, where he met with local security agencies and nearby villagers.

As part of the ‘Peduli Veteran MADANI’ (PVM) outreach initiative, he visited two families of Armed Forces veterans in Baram.

He presented a ‘Pingat Jasa Malaysia’ (PJM) medal to the widow of a former soldier, provided daily essentials, and extended aquaculture assistance to a veteran who is running a freshwater fish farming project.

“The PVM Bario programme was carried out to reach out to Armed Forces veterans regardless of their location, ensuring that the assistance provided meets their actual needs, while also serving as a platform to deliver government policies, updates and current aid initiatives to the veteran community,” the statement added.
