KUALA LUMPUR: A 37-year-old administrative assistant at a government department pleaded not guilty in the Magistrates’ Court here today to a charge of insulting the modesty of a female student undergoing industrial training three months ago.

Mohamad Aznee Osman was charged with committing the offence against the 23-year-old victim at a government office here at 1:58 pm on April 4.

The charge was framed under Section 509 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of five years, or a fine, or both, upon conviction.

Magistrate Farah Nabihah Muhamad Dan allowed Aznee bail of RM2,500 in one surety and required him to avoid harassing the victim.

She set September 3 for mention of the case.

Aznee, who was not represented by counsel, pleaded for a small bail sum.

“I am a civil servant earning RM2,000 a month. I have three school-going children and one of them is a person with disabilities, while my wife is unemployed,” he said.

The prosecution was conducted by prosecuting officer, Insp M. Alli Nangai. – BERNAMA
