SIBU: Bawang Assan assemblyman Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh hopes that not only people’s representatives but also government agencies will adopt the characteristics of a snake—an animal symbolising wisdom, agility, and mental acuity.

“They are very skilful thinkers. So, I hope all of us—not just people’s representatives, but also community leaders and government officers—will adopt the snake’s attitude of being agile, problem-solving, and helping the people.

“This is what Chinese culture teaches us about the snake,” he said when met by reporters at his Chinese New Year celebration, which was officiated by Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) president Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing at a renowned hotel here on Tuesday night.

Wong, who is also the senior vice president of PDP, added that snakes shed their skin once a year to grow stronger and move forward.

“This is another characteristic of the snake, meaning that we must discard and forget about the past—particularly anything unhappy or negative—and plan for the future with confidence and greater determination,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, regarding the event, he said that 400 attendees from various government agencies were present.

“I organise this Chinese New Year gathering because I would like, on my behalf, on behalf of my family, and on behalf of my party, PDP, to thank all the government department officers, community leaders, and councillors for helping me and my party fulfil our duties and responsibilities. They have helped us a lot,” he added.

Also present were Krian assemblyman Friday Belik, Meluan assemblyman Rolland Duat Jubin, political secretary to the Sarawak Premier Joshua Ting Fu Ying, and organising chairman Kapitan Wong Hua.
