KUCHING: Kuching City FC’s consistent form in the 2025/2026 Super League has placed the club firmly in contention for a place in the AFC Champions League Two (ACL 2).
Sports analyst Datuk Dr Pekan Ramli said Kuching City FC have been among the most organised sides this season, both in planning and performance, and deserved their position in the upper reaches of the league table.
He noted that the team had shown from early in the campaign the potential to finish in the top four, a position reflected by their current standing near the top of the table, including second place behind defending champions Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT).
“This is an achievement the club can be proud of. Kuching City FC’s planning has been systematic, with the team retaining the bulk of its players from last season while bringing in only a small number of quality imports,” he told TVS.
Pekan Ramli said the approach has enabled Kuching City FC to maintain consistency throughout the season and compete effectively against more established teams such as Selangor FC, Kuala Lumpur City FC and Terengganu FC.
However, he cautioned that the team must sustain their momentum until the end of the campaign to avoid faltering at a crucial stage.
“This is their best opportunity to secure a place in the ACL 2 and represent the country at the Asian level,” he said.
He added that qualification alone would not be sufficient, stressing that proper preparation is essential for Kuching City FC to compete credibly on the continental stage. – TVS
