KUCHING: Battery manufacturer ABM Fujiya Bhd (AFujiya) has reported dismay set of financial results, incurring group net loss of RM3.65 million in second quarter ended June 30, 2025 (2Q2025) from net profit of RM98,000 in 2Q2024 as revenue plunged to RM28 million from RM41 million.

This resulted in the company to register loss per share of 2.03sen from earnings per share of 0.05sen previously.

The 2Q2025 financial results were worse than that of the immediate preceding quarter (1Q2025) when group revenue was higher at RM37.7 million and lower pre-tax loss of RM2.68 million (2Q2025:- RM5.55 million).

AFujiya blamed the widening losses to the increasing higher finance cost as the group’s large investment in the new battering manufacturing plant in Demak Laut Industrial Park here was mainly financed by borrowings from licensed banks.

As at June 30, 2025, AFujiya group’s total borrowings stood at RM337.25 million, a sharp increase from RM260 million a year ago. In first half of 2025 (1H2025), AFujiya managed to reduce group net loss to RM5.41 million (1H2024:-RM7.14 million) despite decline in revenue to RM65.71 million (RM88 million).

“The group has completed four production lines for its new battery manufacturing plant, and is looking forward to complete its fifth line of production by the end of the year.

“With better economies of scale in production and increasing staffs’ expertise in running the machineries of the group’s new battery manufacturing plant, the group managed to maintain an operational profit at the group level,” AFujiya said in explanatory notes to its financial results.

AFujiya said the group had started the production of enhanced flooded batteries (EFB batteries),a key component of an electric vehicle (EV) car aside from a lithium battery to embrace the shift of market trends and acceptance of EV car, and stay competitive in both the local and international markets. The company expects the new battery manufacturing plant to gradually boost the overall group’s performance.
