KUCHING: Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Openg has urged state government agencies to declare their dividends to the government.

He said most government bodies had never declared their dividends.

“I want the culture to change,” he stressed in his speech during the closing ceremony of the Urban Development and Natural Resources Ministry Team Building Programme at Damai Beach Resort here on Saturday night.

The team building programme was participated by   96 staff of the ministry.

Johari said in economics, it was a must for agencies to declare their profits to the share holders.

“If they have the Key Performance Index (KPI), they will give certain dividends to the government. After all, the government needs money,” he added.

Johari said declaring dividends to the state would be   a yardstick for agencies to check whether they performed or not.
